| Border Collie Breed Information |
The Border Collie originates in the Scottish/English border country. They are energetic, intelligent and very loyal working dogs. With an an instinctive desire to work and inexhaustible energy, they are usually very 'co-operative' towards training and excel at sports such as agility and obedience.
The Border Collie is certainly not suited to a life that provides no outlet for its intelligence and needs mental stimulation to keep them satisfied, such as obedience or agility training.
The Border Collie has no major health problems and can live up to 14 or 15 years old, however, like any breed, problems can occasionally occur.
Health issues to be aware of include Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (CL), Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), Progressive & Central Retinal Atrophy (PRA/CRA) and Trapped Neutrophil Syndrome. For more information on the abovementioned health issues please refer to the following Border Collie Council & Club sites of Australia:-

When breeding, we research the lines to exhaustion in trying to avoid such
inheritable diseases, along with making any prospective Border Collie owner
aware of such health issues - a must for all Border Collie breeders in order to
keep this beautiful breed alive.
Here, at Westurn, every litter is raised as a part of our family. Parents
are DNA tested for inheritable diseases wherever possible. Lines are carefully chosen,
with a breeding plan in mind and the future of the breed in our best interest.
We are proud that many a "Westurn baby" has weaved it's way into the hearts of
families across Australia, from the comfort of the lounge room couch to working
sheep in our great outback ...
Good temperament, workability and great style are the foundations of these great
working dogs of Australia - our companions for life.
